SIGNING IN HAS CHANGED: Shopify now emails you a one-time code instead of a password. Here is what to do.

Signing In Has Changed

Shopify has changed the way customers sign in to online stores. Passwords have been replaced by a one time code sent to your email. Here is how it works, and the one thing that catches almost everyone.

What changed

There is no password any more. You enter your email address, Shopify emails you a code, and you type the code in. Nothing to remember, and nothing to reset.

How to sign in

  1. Type cottoncollective.org into your browser.
  2. Click My Account.
  3. Enter the email address your account is under.
  4. Check your email for the code, then type it in.

One thing to expect. The sign-in page is hosted by Shopify, so once you click through, the web address will show shopify.com instead of cottoncollective.org. That is normal, and it is the real sign-in page.

Use the email address your account is under

This is the part that catches almost everyone, so it is worth a minute.

If you enter an email address that is not on your account, you will not get an error message. A new, empty account is created for whatever address you typed, and that account shows retail prices with no bulk order form on it.

So if your wholesale pricing looks like it has disappeared, your account is almost certainly fine. You are signed in to the wrong one.

The address you want is the one that receives your order confirmations and invoices. Sign out, sign back in with that address, and your pricing, order history and terms will all be exactly where you left them.

A colleague's address, a personal address, an address you used a few years ago, or a small typo will each take you to a different, empty account.

Everyone on your team can have their own sign-in

The code goes to one inbox. So a login shared between a buyer, a warehouse manager and an owner stops working for most of them.

You do not have to share a login, and you do not have to ask us to set anything up. You can add as many people as you need, yourself:

  1. Sign in.
  2. Open Company Users.
  3. Choose Invite New User.

Each person then signs in with their own email address and their own code, and sees the same wholesale pricing, the same order history and the same terms as everyone else on your account.

If someone on your team has already signed in and landed on a retail account, inviting that exact address here is the fix.

One thing to know: order notifications and invoices still go to the primary account email only. Added users can place orders, but the paperwork goes to one address.

If the code does not arrive

  1. Check your spam or junk folder.
  2. Wait a minute, then request a new code from the sign-in page.
  3. Make sure you typed the address your account is actually under.

If none of that works, email orders@cottoncollective.org with the address you are using and we will check the account from our side.

What did not change

Your wholesale pricing. Your order history. Your saved addresses. The bulk order form. Your invoices and your terms. All exactly as they were.

The only thing that changed is the sign-in step.

A note on security

We will never email you a login link, and we will never ask you for your password. To sign in, type cottoncollective.org into your browser yourself.

If a code arrives when you did not just ask for one, ignore it.

And check the spelling of the sender's domain on anything that looks like it came from us. If you ever want to be sure a message is really ours, call us on the number you already have.

Still stuck

Email orders@cottoncollective.org and tell us the email address you are signing in with. That is usually all we need to sort it out.
